HISTORY

Raytex Industries is a fourth generation U.S. company that traces its origins back to the late 1800s, when founder Benjamin Reich and his son, Sam, began selling fabric to New York City housewives for the private manufacture of clothing. Sam soon took over the reigns of the company, and as business opportunities expanded, so did Sam’s vision for the textile company that was originally called Reich Textiles.

In 1944 the company was renamed Raytex Fabrics, combining “RAY-on” and “TEX-tiles” reflecting the fact that the company had become one of the leading suppliers of rayon to the burgeoning outerwear industry. As the business continued to grow, Sam’s son, Marshall, returned from World War II during which he served as a pilot in the Army Air Corps. Together, Sam and Marshall built Raytex into a multimillion dollar supplier to the outerwear and rainwear trades.

In 1981, Marshall’s son, Daniel, joined the company and through acquisition the company expanded rapidly. In 1984 Raytex acquired Tan-Tex Industries (the leading fabric supplier to the U.S. military industry) and Tan-Tex Home Furnishings (a supplier of fabrics used for beddings, outdoor furniture cushions, and other home furnishing products). Five years later Raytex acquired Travis Textiles, the most innovative textile supplier to the outerwear, activewear and industrial markets, and the new conglomerate became the largest supplier of woven nylon in the United States. In 1991, Daniel became the CEO of Raytex.

In 2004 and 2005, respectively, Raytex opened offices in Shanghai, China and Santa Ana, El Salvador. These offices allow the company to offer the advantages of Asia’s competitive pricing and dependable labor supply along with Central America’s quick turnaround time, proximity to major U.S. ports and favorable duty rates.

In 2006, Daniel changed the company name to Raytex Industries to more accurately reflect its global strength and diversification into new industries, markets and businesses. Raytex Industries is a global supplier of fabrics and apparel and is a growing source for companies looking for supply chain management. We invite you to peruse our website to read about the company’s success stories in delivering steel cable, towels, paint rollers, laundry bags, dog beds, mops and many other products to customers in non-textile industries.

Today, Raytex employs an experienced staff of forward-thinking and innovative people who embody the character traits on which the company was built—honesty and integrity—always standing behind the company’s products and providing accountability to its valued customers.

With its strong financial structure and its commitment to excellence, Raytex Industries is uniquely prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the twenty-first century, with global strength and its most important asset—its people. If a long record of success can be synonymous with innovation, then Raytex’s history is just beginning.
